Breckenridge is a small town established in the year 1859 in the Summit County in the State of Colorado. It is a popular tourist destination attracting millions of visitors each year. It is also known as a perfect mountain town. Breckenridge is also a famous ski resort during the winters and has many difficulty levels of ski slopes on the Rocky Mountains. During summers Breckenridge offers a wide range of recreational and entertainment activities. Some of these activities include mountain biking, hiking, fly-fishing in the nearby Blue River. Some even enjoy boating in Lake Dillon and white water rafting among other activities.

Located at an altitude of 9,603 feet above sea level, Breckenridge is spread across an area of 3,702 acres (5.5 square miles). The U-shaped valley has 12,000 to 14,000 foot peaks of the Ten-Mile Range on its west, the Continental Divide in the south and the east with the Blue River that flows through the center if the city from south to north before meeting the Colorado River.

Breckenridge is characterized by harsh cold climate with an average snowfall of 300 inches. It is projected that the valley basin has just 30 frost-free days each year. Summers in Breckenridge are rather mild with temperatures not exceeding 80 degrees Fahrenheit more often. The city receives a light amount of rainfall each year, reaching its peak in July and August. This brings ample of winter snow and constant afternoon rain during the summer.

In the late 1850’s Pike's Peak Gold Rush was in full swing. With the discovery of gold in Breckenridge brought many fortune hunters and miners into this area. By 1862 the Civil War made it difficult in locating free, accessible gold with many miners and mining companies consolidating their holdings. Today Breckenridge is a world-renowned ski resort. The Breckenridge Nordic Ski Center just east of Peak 8 Base is one of the oldest cross-country skiing facilities in the state of Colorado. It has more than 30 kilometers of groomed trails for track and skate skiing and over 20 kilometers of snowshoe trails. The Gold Run Nordic Center is yet another popular ski destination having over 27 kilometers groomed classic and skate ski trails and over 13 kilometers of snowshoe trails.

Over the last 20 years Breckenridge has seen a steady rise in its population. More and more people are settling in this area.
